Several key London transport routes are either part-closed or running reduced services today (October 8) due to works on the lines.

The Elizabeth line is running no service between Paddington and Abbey Wood/Shenfield at all, while also operating a reduced programme between Paddington and Heathrow/Reading.

The London Overground is the other line with a major outage, with no trains between Shepherds Bush/Richmond and Stratford until 12pm, and no service all day further east, between Romford and Upminster.

On the London Underground, the Metropolitan line is not running between Wembley Park and Amersham/Chesham/Uxbridge, and there are no trains on the Piccadilly line between South Harrow and Uxbridge.

The District line is also reporting minor delays between Earl’s Court and Kensington (Olympia), due to train cancellations.

For those needing to head to Gatwick, the airport’s express service will not be running today either, due to engineering works.

Londoners did however avoid Tube disruption earlier in the week, after the RMT union suspended strike action on October 4 and 6 after making “significant progress” in talks with Transport for London (TfL) over staff cuts and working conditions.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch praised the union’s members “who were prepared to take strike action and our negotiations team for securing this victory in our tube dispute”.

Nick Dent, London Underground’s director of customer operations, meanwhile said he is “pleased” the strike action was suspended, “and that the dispute on our change proposals in stations is now resolved”.
