TfL: Disruption on the Tube, London Overground and buses this weekend - September 16-17

The Piccadilly and District lines are among the TfL services with planned disruption this weekend.

A number of Tube, Overground and bus services will be impacted by planned works this weekend.

Included are planned closures on the Piccadilly and District lines.

People are advised to check before they travel.

District line

Friday to Sunday September (15-17): No service between Earl's Court and Richmond/Ealing Broadway from 9pm on Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Use alternative Tube and rail services, or local or rail replacement bus routes. Customers travelling between central London and Heathrow should use Elizabeth line services to/from Paddington. Rail replacement bus services will run. ​​​​​​

Piccadilly line

Friday to Sunday (September 15-17): No service between Hyde Park Corner and Northfields/Uxbridge from 9pm on Friday until Sunday morning, including Night Tube.

Use alternative Tube and rail services, or local or rail replacement bus routes. Customers travelling between central London and Heathrow should use Elizabeth line services to/from Paddington. Rail replacement bus services will run.

London Overground

Saturday and Sunday (September 16-17): No service between New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace/West Croydon. Use Southern Railway replacement bus services. Customers for Anerley and Penge West will need to use local bus routes.

Sunday September 17: No service between Barking and Barking Riverside.

Sunday September 17: No service between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction. Trains to/from Clapham Junction will be starting/terminating at Battersea Park station. Use Southern Railway services or local bus routes 156 or 344 between Battersea Park and Clapham Junction. Use local bus routes 77 or 87 between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction.

Sunday September 17: No service between Willesden Junction and Shepherd's Bush until 11am.

Sunday September 17: No service between Gospel Oak and Richmond until 11am. Rail replacement buses will run every 15 minutes between Willesden Junction and Richmond, and between Willesden Junction and Camden Road.

Monday to Thursday (September 18-21): No service between New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace/West Croydon after 11pm each night. Use local bus or tram routes. A Southern rail replacement bus service is expected to depart from London Bridge at 1.35am, calling at New Cross Gate, Brockley, Honor Oak Park, Forest Hill, Sydenham, Norwood Junction and East Croydon. Visit the Southern website for more information. No westbound service between Stratford and Camden Road after 11.45pm each night. Use local bus routes.

Wednesday and Thursday (September 20-21): No eastbound service from Willesden Junction to Stratford after 11pm each night. Use alternative Tube services or local bus routes.

Saturday and Sunday (September 16-17): No service between Bank/Tower Gateway and Poplar/West India Quay. For Bank/Monument, use the Circle or District lines to Monument. Rail replacement buses will run but will not call at Poplar or West India Quay. Alight at Canary Wharf for these stations.

Buses and roads

Friday September 15

Lord's Cricket Ground: England will be playing New Zealand in a cricket match at Lord's Cricket Ground from 12.30pm until 11pm. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.

The O2, North Greenwich: The O2 will be hosting Sugababes in concert from 5pm until 11pm. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.

Until Friday September 15

A401/A4, Shaftesbury Avenue, Piccadilly Circus and Great Windmill Street: Until 11.59pm, Shaftesbury Avenue will be closed northbound between Piccadilly Circus and Great Windmill Street for a nearby development. Denman Street will also be closed in both directions.

Millwall/Richmond areas: The Great River Race will be taking place from midday until 7.30pm, where participants will row the length of the River Thames from Millwall to Richmond. Large crowds are expected.

Central London area: A demonstration march will be taking place in central London from midday until 6pm, starting at Princes Gate and ending in Marble Arch. Large crowds are expected.

Central London area: A demonstration march by Extinction Rebellion will be taking place in central London from 1pm to 3pm, starting in Grosvenor Gardens and ending in Parliament Square. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.

Central London area: The MS Walk London charity walk will be taking place from 10am until 6pm in central London, where participants will be walking on various routes, all starting and finishing in Victoria Embankment Gardens. Large crowds are expected.

Trafalgar Square: Demonstrations will be taking place between midday and 5pm in Trafalgar Square. Large crowds are expected.

Saturday and Sunday (September 16-17)

Gunnersbury Park, Ealing: The Waterworks Festival will be taking place in Gunnersbury Park from midday until 10.30pm on Saturday, and from 11am until 10pm on Sunday. Large crowds and increased traffic are expected.

The O2, North Greenwich: The O2 will be hosting Shania Twain in concert from 6.30pm until 11pm each day. Large crowds and increased traffic are expected.

Burgess Park, Southwark: The NTS & Boiler Room music event will be taking place in Burgess Park from midday until 11pm on Saturday, and from midday until 10.30pm on Sunday. Large crowds and increased traffic are expected.

Until Tuesday September 26

A316, Lower Richmond Road and Lower Mortlake Road: Until Tuesday, Sandycombe Road will be closed southbound, lanes one (eastbound) and three (westbound) on Lower Richmond Road will be closed and lane two on Lower Mortlake Road will be closed eastbound. North Road will also be closed and a local diversion is in place.

There will be more lane closures on the A316 on Lower Richmond Road at the junction of Lower Mortlake Road until Sunday June 2 2024, for street lighting and traffic signal maintenance works.

Until early October

Wandsworth Bridge closure: Until early October, Wandsworth Bridge will be closed to all motorised traffic. This is while the London Borough of Wandsworth carries out essential safety repairs.

The bridge will be open for walking. If you are cycling, you’ll be able to push your bike across. Diversions will be in place, but all local roads and nearby river crossings are expected to be extremely busy. Bus routes using the bridge will stop north of the river or be on diversion. Until Sunday November 5

A501/A4201, Marylebone Road and Park Square West: Until 7pm on Sunday November 5, Marylebone Road will be closed eastbound (lanes one and two of four) between its junction with Park Square West for Thames Water works.

Until Tuesday October 10

A23/A232, Epsom Road: Until 5am on Tuesday October 10, Epsom Road is closed in both directions between Purley Way and Duppas Hill Road for carriageway maintenance and works.

Until mid-November

A40, Hanger Lane Gyratory and Gypsy Corner: Until mid-November, there will be a series of lane closures on the A40 between Hanger Lane Gyratory and Gypsy Corner. This is while utility work is carried out for the HS2 rail project. Delays are expected and you are advised to leave more time for your journey and use other routes where possible. Until Spring 2024

Manor Circus: Until Spring 2024, there will be a series of lane closures and traffic management affecting each arm of the Manor Circus roundabout. This is for maintenance works. Works will take place on each arm separately with the most impactful works expected to be completed by December 2023.

Bus route R68 will not run its entire route during these works, use the R70 for stops between Richmond Manor Circus and Kew Retail Park. If driving, delays are expected and you are advised to plan ahead, leave more time for your journey and use alternative routes where possible.
