TfL this Bank Holiday weekend August 23 to 26: Underground and Overground disruption

Here is the full list of planned TfL service changes this Bank Holiday weekend, August 23 to 26.

Londoners travelling into the capital this weekend could be faced with disruption due to closures on Tube and rail services.

Transport for London (TfL) has asked Londoners to check before they travel.

London Underground

Piccadilly line

Saturday August 24 until Sunday September 1

Planned works and closures on the Piccadilly line to prepare for new trains

During this time there will be no service between Wood Green and Cockfosters.

If you are travelling from central London to stations from Wood Green to Cockfosters, you should use the Piccadilly line to connect with rail replacement buses at Wood Green.

If you are travelling to Arnos Grove or Bounds Green, you can also use Great Northern services to New Southgate to connect with rail replacement buses to adjacent stations.

Instead of the Night Tube you can use Night Bus route N91.

Piccadilly line services will not run between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge during this closure. You should use the Metropolitan line instead.

A normal service will resume on Monday September 2.

London Overground

Saturday 24 until Monday August 26

No service between Sydenham and Crystal Palace

Use local buses between Anerley and Crystal Palace. Services between New Cross Gate and Sydenham will be reduced to four trains per hour - trains will run every 15 minutes all day. This is due to Network Rail track work.

Saturday 24 August until Sunday September 1

No Southern services through Crystal Palace

During this time there will be major changes to Southern Railways services in the Crystal Palace area and some stations will have no train service. This is due to Network Rail engineering work.

Tickets will be accepted on TfL services, including London Overground and existing local bus routes. Please check for more information on the Southern website, and plan ahead.

Saturday August 24

Reduced service between Euston and Kilburn High Road from 7.15am until 9.15pm (northbound) and from 6.30am until 8.30pm (southbound)

Trains will be reduced to three per hour. This is due to HS2 works.

Sunday August 25

No northbound service between Dalston Junction and Highbury & Islington after 11.45pm

The 11.03pm train from West Croydon and the 11.19pm train from Crystal Palace will both terminate at Dalston Junction at 11.47pm and 11.55pm. 

For onward travel to Canonbury and Dalston Junction, use local bus route 30 or Night Bus route N277. The last through train from Dalston Junction to Highbury & Islington is at 11.32pm/ This is due to maintenance work.

Monday August 26

No westbound service between Stratford and Camden Road until 6.15am

Use the first westbound service from Stratford at 6.13am or 6.21am, or use local bus routes. This is due to maintenance work.

No service between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction until 6.15am

Use local bus route 30 between Highbury & Islington, Canonbury and Dalston Junction until this time. The first through trains from each station will be at 6.17am. This is due to maintenance work.

DLR

Until Sunday August 25

Reduced service on the DLR

A reduced timetable will operate on all DLR routes. Trains will run less frequently and at different times. Journeys may take longer than usual.

Buses and roads

Thursday 22 August

O2 Arena

From 6.30pm until 11.30pm, the O2 Arena will host Noah Kahan in concert. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after the event.

Whitechapel High Street 

From 10pm on Thursday 22 until 5am Tuesday August 27, there will be westbound lane restrictions in place on Whitechapel High Street between the junctions with the A13 Commercial Road and Leman Street, with temporary traffic signals on all approaches. This is due to Cadent Gas works.

 During these works, the westbound cycleway will also be suspended between the A13 Commercial Road and Leman Street.

A406 North Circular Road eastbound

Until 3pm on Friday August 23, one of three lanes is closed eastbound at the junction of Brook Mews. This is due to Thames Water works.

Friday 23 until Sunday August 25

Victoria Park

From 2pm until 11.30pm each day, the All Points East music festival is taking place in Victoria Park. Large crowds are expected.

Friday 23 until Monday August 26

A10 Bishopsgate

From 7pm on Friday 23 until 5am on Monday August 26, there will be temporary traffic signals, with a full closure of Threadneedle Street, plus width restriction on Bishopsgate, by St Helens Place. This is due to Thames Water works.

Friday 23 until Thursday August 29

A20 Sidcup Bypass

From 10pm on Friday 23 until 5am on Tuesday August 27, the road will be closed eastbound towards Kent between the Frognals Corner junction with the A222 and J3 of the M25. The slip road between Frognals Corner and the A224 will remain open. One lane will also be closed westbound towards London.

From 10pm until 5am on Tuesday August 27 and Wednesday August 28 the road will be closed westbound. Eastbound traffic will not be affected. Please plan ahead, use alternative routes and leave more time for your journey.  

Friday August 23

Kentish Town

From 8am until 8pm, the Kentish Town Community Centre Summer Party will take place. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected.

Southwark

From 11.30am until 10.30pm, the Piano People in the Park music event is taking place in Southwark Park. Large crowds are expected.

Victoria Park

From 2pm until 11.30pm, the All Points East music festival is taking place in Victoria Park. Large crowds are expected.

Saturday August 24

Docklands

From 10am until 7pm, the London Summer Walk charity event is taking place, starting and finishing at Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, in a 25km loop crossing both sides of the river through the docklands area. Large crowds are expected.

Notting Hill

From 11am until 11.30pm, the UK National Panorama Steel Band competition is taking place at Emslie Horniman's Pleasance Park, Kensal Road, as part of Notting Hill Carnival. Large crowds are expected.

Southwark

From 11.30am until 10.30pm, RALLY music festival is taking place in Southwark Park. Large crowds are expected.

Notting Hill/West London

Notting Hill Carnival takes place over the August Bank Holiday, with two million people expected to visit west London over the course of the weekend. Extensive road closures and planned bus diversions will be implemented from Saturday 24 until Tuesday August 27.

For the easiest and least crowded journey, TfL advises customers to take London Underground or Elizabeth line services to Paddington station. From here, Notting Hill Carnival is a short walk away. At Paddington station there is step-free access to the Elizabeth line, as well as the Bakerloo, Hammersmith & City and Circle lines, where you can follow a signed walking route to Carnival. 

Sunday August 25

Marble Arch

From 7am until 6.30pm, the Hussaini Association March is taking place from Marble Arch to Paddington Green, via Edgware Road. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected.

Southwark

From 11.30am until 10.30pm, the Body Movements music event is taking place in Southwark Park. Large crowds are expected.

Kensington

From 1pm until 6pm, an anti-Iranian government protest will be held outside the Iranian Embassy, Prince's Gate. Large crowds are expected.

Hyde Park

From 1pm until 5pm a Stand Up for Women demonstration will be taking place at Speakers Corner.

Wembley

From 4pm until 11pm, an All Elite Wrestling event is taking place at Wembley Stadium. Large crowds are expected.

Until Wednesday August 28

Whitehall

There will be two separate directional closures of Whitehall for works by Westminster City Council.

Work will take place Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm, and Saturdays between 8am and 1pm, starting on the southbound carriageway from the junction with Trafalgar Square, before moving to northbound from Wednesday August 14, from the junction with Great Scotland Yard. 

While the closures are in place, all traffic including some bus services will be on diversion. Follow the official diversion routes, check before you travel and leave more time for your journey.

Brixton

Until September 10, there will be a series of bus lane closures on the A23 Brixton Road at the junction with Atlantic Road. This is to install new pedestrian and cycling crossing facilities.

You will still be able to use Brixton Road in both directions, but there will be some changes to the road layout. Allow more time for your journey and check before you travel. If travelling locally, consider walking or cycling where possible.
