Southern services will not run into London Victoria over Easter due to line upgrades at Streatham.

Passengers intending to travel into or out of London Victoria station over the Easter weekend are being advised to plan ahead, with line upgrades due to impact services.

No trains will be running between East Croydon and London Victoria from April 7-10 due to the works, with most Southern services to be diverted to London Bridge.

Tickets will be accepted on London Underground services between Victoria, London Bridge and Clapham Junction stations, and on replacement buses between Clapham Junction and East Croydon.

Network Rail added other Southern services in south London and out to Sussex will be amended, with further details on the Southern website.

The reduced services are to allow for work renewing outdated switches and crossings at Streatham, to improve safety and reliability. They are part of a larger four-year series of upgrades to modernise the track and signalling in south London and into Victoria.

The weekend’s work will conclude the third phase of upgrades, with a total of £160 million invested into this part of the railway.

London Victoria is not alone in being hit by service changes over Easter, with London Euston, the Elizabeth line and the Gatwick Express also among those running at amended timetables.

Lucy McAuliffe, Network Rail’s Sussex route director, said: “I’d like to thank passengers for their patience while we carry out these important upgrades over the Easter period.

“There is never a good time to close the railway but we have chosen to complete this work over the Easter weekend when passenger numbers are generally lower to help minimise disruption.

“The upgrades we’re making as part of the London Victoria signalling programme are vital in modernising the dated track and signalling into London Victoria and the railway in south London. More reliable equipment that is less likely to break and is easier to fix will mean passengers will benefit from fewer delays and more reliable journeys.

“I encourage any passengers that are intending to travel by train over Easter to please plan ahead and check their journeys with their train operator.”
