London TfL Tube stations: What are the capital’s busiest Underground stops?

London’s busiest Tube stations have been revealed, with a familiar name taking the top spot yet again.

According to Transport for London’s (TfL) latest figures, King’s Cross Underground station has recorded the most entries and exits for August this year, followed by Tottenham Court Road and Waterloo.

Tottenham Court Road’s second-place entry for 2023 represents a massive jump on last year, when it came 10th, recording more than a million fewer passengers.

King’s Cross has held onto its position at the top of the pile, and has added around 800,000 entries and exits, as Tube numbers continue to rebound post-pandemic.

The station links six Underground lines, namely the Circle, Piccadilly, Hammersmith and City, Northern, Metropolitan, and Victoria. It also connects to national and international train lines, though the figures referenced in this article only cover the station’s Tube network.

A TfL spokesperson said all stations have well-rehearsed plans to handle any crowding, and staff are available when required.

They added between three and four million Tube journeys are made each day, equating to 85% of pre-pandemic levels, and five million bus journeys, 80-85% of the figures pre-pandemic.

Glynn Barton, TfL’s chief operating officer, said: “We are continuing to see growing ridership across the TfL network as more people make the most of our services to travel to work, visit family and friends or attend some of the extensive leisure activities the capital has to offer.

“With around 85% of pre-pandemic ridership on the majority of TfL services rising to around 100% often at weekends, both Londoners and visitors are enjoying our reliable and extensive transport network.

“Our newest route, the Elizabeth line, also continues to exceed predicted ridership levels with more than 650,000 journeys on weekdays and more than 200m journeys since the line’s opening in May 2022.

“TfL remains committed to supporting London’s growth and to helping both Londoners and visitors make the very best of everything this city has to offer.”
