London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has warned passengers not to travel on Saturday (October 21) as Storm Babet wreaks havoc on large areas of the UK.

LNER runs services from King’s Cross to Scotland, Newcastle and Leeds. A red weather warning remains in place in parts of Scotland and there has also been heavy flooding in the north of England.

The company said in a statement: “Severe weather is causing major disruption to services across the LNER route. Many rail routes are suspended due to flooding and an extremely limited service is in operation. Please do not travel today, Saturday October 21.”

Travellers to and from King’s Cross have experienced cancellations, and LNER says disruption is expected to continue on Sunday.

There are no LNER services operating north of Edinburgh towards Aberdeen or Inverness. The line between Doncaster and Leeds is blocked due to flooding.

The company says Friday’s disruption means crews and trains are displaced across the country - and services are subject to short-notice cancellation.

Due to road closures, rail replacement services are not available, and other train operators are also subject to disruption.

LNER says tickets will be valid for travel between Monday and Friday (October 23-27). The company recommends passengers make reservations online. Refunds can be obtained from the point of purchase.

Live LNER service updates can be found on the company’s website.
