London Gatwick trains suspended after person hit by a train - also major disruption for Stansted

National Rail reports that a person was hit by a train between Gatwick and Three Bridges on Friday (February 16).

Emergency services were called after a person was hit by a train between Three Bridges and Gatwick on Friday morning.

Services were suspended between the stations and passengers can expect cancellations and severe delays until at least 10am.

National Rail said on its website: "Please delay travelling until later today, once the line has reopened. Staff are not currently able to provide a timescale for this incident. Staff have looked at acquiring rail replacement buses, but have not been able to confirm any."

Three rail lines are affected:

  • Gatwick Express between Brighton and London Victoria
  • Southern between Brighton / Littlehampton / Ore / Bognor Regis / Eastbourne and London Victoria, and between Gatwick Airport and Redhill
  • Thameslink between Brighton and Bedford / Cambridge, and between Three Bridges and Bedford, and also between Horsham and Peterborough

Tickets can be used on alternative routes.

In a separate incident, major disruption is expected on Stansted services until 2pm due to a signalling fault. Trains running to and from the station may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.

Routes affected are:

  • CrossCountry between Bristol Temple Meads and Stansted Airport, and between Stansted Airport and Birmingham New Street
  • Greater Anglia between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport, and between Stansted Airport and Norwich
  • Stansted Express between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport
