Gatwick Express cancelled and Southern rail major disruption after vehicle hits bridge at Thornton Heath

Gatwick Express rail services were cancelled and Southern services faced serious disruption on Friday morning (March 15).

Rail services were cancelled on Friday morning after a vehicle struck a bridge in south London.

The incident happened at Thornton Heath and lines are blocked, meaning trains running between Selhurst and Streatham Common may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

Gatwick Express and Southern services have been impacted by the incident.

Gatwick Express cancellations

Gatwick Express says services will not run and that major disruption is expected until midday, with services already cancelled.

The operator recommendsusing alternative Southern or Thameslink services between the south coast, Gatwick Airport and London.

Southern cancellations

Southern trains north from Eastbourne/Littlehampton/Southampton Central/Portsmouth Harbour towards London Victoria will be terminated/restarted at Haywards Heath, Three Bridges or Gatwick Airport, according to National Rail.

Trains between London Victoria and Reigate are being diverted into London Bridge, as are services between Redhill and Gatwick Airport/Three Bridges.

Southern trains between London Victoria and Epsom Downs/Sutton are diverted via Crystal Palace, and services between East Croydon and Clapham Junction/Milton Keynes/Watford Junction are suspended.
