Security staff at Eurostar have begun a strike ballot over the dismissal of a colleague, the RMT union has announced.

All union members working for facilities management company Mitie will be balloted from July 11 until August 1.

The RMT believes the colleague’s dismissal to be “wholly unfair.”

In a separate dispute, Mitie workers have also rejected the company’s "appalling" pay offer, meaning future strike action cannot be ruled out.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch lambasted the company saying: "Mitie are a dreadful company and should not be operating on the railways.

"Our security staff members do such a vital role keeping Eurostar passengers safe and secure on their journeys across Europe.

"Yet they are treated with contempt, sacked without good reason and not offered decent pay rises when the company is highly profitable.

"Outsourcing on our railways must end and workers brought back in house."

LondonWorld has contacted Mitie for comment.
