TfL Elizabeth line: Part closure every weekend in February - here’s why

The Elizabeth line will be partially closed on four weekends throughout February due to planned engineering works.

The works will also affect Greater Anglia services between Shenfield and Liverpool Street stations. 

Network Rail said the closures are due to infrastructure maintenance between Stratford, Shenfield, Billericay and Southend Victoria, as well as weekend work at the site of the new Beaulieu Park station in Chelmsford.

The work will include track maintenance, removal of litter and graffiti and replacement of footbridge steps at Ilford station.

When will the closures take place?

The works are set to take place over the following weekends, affecting Greater Anglia and Elizabeth line services:

• Saturday February 3 and Sunday February 4
• Saturday February 10 and Sunday February 11
• Saturday February 17 and Sunday February 18
• Saturday February24 and Sunday February 25

During these weekends the Elizabeth line will not run between Stratford and Shenfield. 

Network Rail says some weekend services will operate between Stratford and Liverpool Street Elizabeth line station via Whitechapel.

There will be no Elizabeth line service between Paddington and Abbey Wood/Shenfield on Sunday February 18.

Rail replacement bus services will be available from Stratford calling at all stations to Romford except Maryland. 

For the outer stations, passengers can change at Chadwell Heath for a bus beyond Romford including Gidea Park, Harold Wood, Brentwood and Shenfield.

Greater Anglia services

On the first two weekends of February, Greater Anglia services from Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester Town and Colchester will terminate at Shenfield.

 On the last two weekends in February, rail services will terminate at Witham.

Each improvement, inspection, survey, and maintenance task emphasise our commitment to passenger safety, and keeping our infrastructure in good condition on a heavily used part of the network into central London is very important. I’d like to thank all our customers for their patience while we carry out these essential tasks.”
