UPDATE 22/11/23: The temporary lights had been removed on Wednesday morning. Thames Water has yet to confirm whether the work is complete.

Temporary traffic lights are causing jams on at least 10 roads around Angel, Islington.

"Emergency" utility works began on Tuesday (November 21) near Angel station and are scheduled to continue until Sunday (November 26).

Temporary lights are in place at the junction of Islington High Street, Pentonville Road, St John Street and City Road.

On Tuesday morning, traffic was backed up along those streets, as well as Upper Street, Liverpool Road, White Lion Street, Wakley Street, Essex Road and Goswell Road.

Transport for London (TfL) warns road users to "use caution" as "temporary traffic lights in place to facilitate emergency works".

"Additionally Upper Street has southbound delays from Islington Green, with delays on Essex Road southbound from New North Road. St John Street has northbound delays from Rosebery Avenue."

TfL and Islington Council were contacted for comment.
