Teenage girl raped: Police search for witness who ‘comforted’ victim

Police are searching for a witness named Sandra who may be able to assist with information on the rape of a teenage girl.

The Met Police are searching for a witness named Sandra who “comforted” a teenage girl “in a state of distress” who had been raped.

Officers believe she may be able to assist with information on the “serious allegation of sexual crime”.

The incident was reported to have happened at around 8.55pm on Sunday, March 6.

The victim, who is in her mid teens, left a block of flats on Joyce Avenue, Edmonton, north London, and in a state of distress went to Fore Street where the police were called.

She spoke to a woman who identified herself as Sandra as she waited for the police at a bus stop.

However, the woman left the scene when the police arrived and has since been untraceable.

The Met Police launched the appeal to find Sandra on Wednesday, June 22.

DC Rebecca Mussington said: “This woman spoke to and comforted the young girl and we really need to speak to her.

“She may not realise it, but her evidence could be crucial.

“This is a very serious allegation of sexual crime against a young girl and I would appeal to this lady, or anyone who has any information to come forward and tell us what you know.

“You can always call Crimestoppers if you do not want to give your name, but however you want to do it, please call.”

Sandra is described as female, black and of medium build.

At the time of the incident she was wearing a black coat, a long red skirt or dress and was carrying a plastic bag.

The woman left the area on a 149 bus heading towards London Bridge.

After the incident an investigation was launched by detectives from the North Area Safeguarding Unit.

As a result of their investigation, on Wednesday, March 29, a 29-year-old man from Haringey was charged with one count of rape and sexual activity with a child.
