Teddington station: new lifts in South West London to help disabled and elderly passengers

The facilities will give passengers step-free access to both platforms at Teddington station to make it easier to navigate.

Network Rail has installed a new lift either side of the footbridge connecting the station’s two platforms on Station Road and Victoria Road, to provide full step-free access for passengers. It is due to start testing the lifts later this month, as it plans to put them into operation in December.

It comes after construction work began on the £4.2million scheme, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), in August last year. New CCTV and lights will also be installed at the station as part of the project.

A Network Rail spokesperson told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS): “Work is taking place to improve accessibility at Teddington station with the installation of lifts on both platforms. Once complete, passengers will benefit from having step-free access to all platforms from both station entrances.

“On November 10, engineers carried out critical construction work on platforms one and two and around the station footbridge. Later this month, teams will start testing the new lifts to ensure they are fully operational. During this time, we will install windows in the lift lobbies and set up new lighting at the station’s footbridge, ticket office and waiting area.

“We thank passengers for their patience while we carry out these vital station improvements and we are doing our utmost to bring the new lifts into use in December 2024.”
