Planning application reveals exciting details about Selfridges' Christmas window display 2025
A planning application has revealed that Selfridges Christmas windows will include “moving lights”...
It might feel a bit early to start talking about Christmas for you or me, but for big London institutions like Selfridges or Harrods, months of planning go into their festive displays.

And now a planning application has revealed some exciting details about Selfridges’ Christmas display for 2025.
According to the application number (25/04413/LBC) the high-end department store is seeking permission to use “moving light effects on Oxford Street for a temporary period.”

Here’s the planning notice in full: “25/04413/LBC Selfridges 400 Oxford Street London W1A 1AB
“Display of internally illuminated Christmas decorations on Oxford Street and Duke Street, including permanent retention of the fixing points and use of moving lighting effects on Oxford Street for a temporary period (Linked 25/04412/ADV)”
Each year, the Selfridges Christmas window displays are a focal attraction of Oxford Street, often showcasing bright, twinkling lights and unique designs.
Last year, 2024, the display included gaudy and flashy Christmas trees bearing designer bags and baubles, an enchanted woodland with monochromatic silver accessories, including stilettoes and an opulent Christmas dining table piled high with bespoke tableware and candles.

Last year’s theme was ‘the more the merrier’ and celebrated exuberance and excess when it comes to celebrating Christmas. Last year’s windows were created in collaboration with artists Andrew Logan, Charles Jeffrey and Flaminia Veronesi.
So while we don’t yet know what theme the Selfridges Christmas lights will take for 2025, we do know this: it’s going to be moving (both literally and maybe emotionally too, who knows!)
