A petition to save the Prince Charles Cinema right by Leicester Square has already received over 100,000 signatures in just 3 days.

This week London’s Prince Charles Cinema launched a petition asking for movie fans’ support after it revealed it was under threat of closure.

Through the petition the venue is calling for its landlord to withdraw the proposed new terms to their lease to negotiate the spot’s future.

Since launching at the start of the week, the petition has already received more than 100,000 signatures from film fans showing their support for the venue.

After the target of 200,000 signatures is reached the petition will be emailed to the venue’s landlord and their parent company as well as the Mayor of London and The Rt Hon Lisa Nandy MP Sec of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

Among those who have already signed, some have also shared why they backed the campaign. One supporter described the venue as “One of the greatest cinemas in the world” while another echoed “The PCC is one of my favourite places on earth”.

The Prince Charles Cinema first opened its doors in 1962 as a theatre but ultimately converted to a watch house seven years later.

Over the years it has become a cherished spot for movie fans from offering £1 tickets in the 90s to its welcoming sing-along screenings. In 2023 amid King Charles’ coronation, the venue announced it would not be changing its name to the King Charles Cinema.
