Event organisers announced the sudden death of the participant just days after the 2025 event took place.

A message on the Royal Parks Half Marathon website published on Tuesday (October 15) confirmed that a man had died after taking part in this year’s race.

Kory Russell, who joined over 16,000 runners on the day, fell unwell and collapsed as he approached the race’s finish line.

At the scene, Mr Russell received ‘specialist medical treatment’ before he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Royal Parks Half Marathon organisers have since confirmed Mr Russell sadly passed away and expressed their ‘sincere condolences to Kory’s family and friends.’

The full statement reads: “With deep sadness, we confirm the death of a participant in the 2025 Royal Parks Half Marathon.

“The cause of death will be established later through a post-mortem.”

The 13.1-mile route passes some of London’s most iconic landmarks and green spaces, including Hyde Park.

A date for the 2026 event has already been set for October 11.
