Officers attended the scene and the items have been sent for analysis to determine whether they are human, and if so whether they are historic or recent.

Police say enquiries are ongoing.

The cemetery is owned and managed by the City of London Corporation. It has been open since 1856 and is a 200-acre parkland site.

It is one of the largest municipal cemeteries in Europe and anyone may be buried there, whatever their background or religious beliefs.
