Today marks a year since the death of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Elizabeth II died aged 96 at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire on 8 September last year, just months after her Platinum Jubilee which marked 70 years on the throne.
She was the longest-lived British monarch and the longest-reigning British monarch, reigning queen and female head of state in the world.
Her death saw an outpouring of grief in the UK and overseas and the United Kingdom went into national mourning for ten days.
Millions watched her state funeral, which was attended by royal family members and state figures from across the globe.
Upon her death her son Charles III ascended to the throne. He and his wife Camilla were crowned King and Queen in a special coronation ceremony on May 6 2023.
In his short tribute, the King thanked the nation for the "love and support" shown to him and Queen Camilla during his first year as monarch.
"In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us," the King said.
"I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all."
