Prince Harry has arrived at the High Court and begun giving evidence about alleged unlawful information gathering by the press.
The Duke of Sussex is suing Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) for damages. He says reporters used illegal means, including phone hacking to gather information.
On Monday, lawyers for the Mirror group accused the prince’s team of “wasting time” by not having him available to give evidence. Andrew Green KC said it was “absolutely extraordinary we were told just last week that he is not available for day one of his own trial”.
The prince arrived on Tuesday morning, chauffeured in a black Range Rover. He is the first senior royal to give evidence in court since Edward VII testified in 1890 during the Royal Baccarat Scandal - a slander case over a card game.
This week, 33 articles will be looked at, with the Mirror Group denying 28 of them involved phone hacking or other unlawful information gathering. They claim stories instead came from a variety of other sources - including other members of the Royal Family.
