Christmas feels like a time when everything stops - but taking care of your health should not be one of those things affected by seasonal opening hours in London. The importance of maintaining prescriptions has not been lost on a number of chemists and pharmacists in the London area.

Many will remain open for longer hours in the week before Christmas, with the likes of Boots and Lloyds Pharmacy scheduling late night shopping for both their stores and pharmacies. The majority of pharmacies in London though will remain closed on both Monday and Tuesday after Christmas - being  Boxing Day and Christmas Day observed bank holidays.

The NHS has advised, due to postal strikes set to occur in the lead up to Christmas Day, those who receive prescriptions by Royal Mail (for example those using the Lloyds Pharmacy’s app) to ensure they get their doctors notes ahead of time to avoid missing any dosages leading into and including the Christmas bank holidays.

The NHS also suggests consulting with doctors well ahead of time in order to have prescriptions written up to avoid any problems regarding congestion in local chemists or through the postal service, the closer it gets to the big day.

Londonworld has taken a look at a number of pharmacies in the London area to bring you the most current information regarding opening times during the Christmas period - including smaller pharmacies and chemists particular to London.

What are the seasonal hours for pharmacies in London?

Boots

Although Boots will be closed on Christmas Day, a number of their stores look to re-open in London on Boxing Day and Christmas Day observed (December 27) between the hours of 11am and 5pm.

For smaller stores, Boots have advised customers check the company’s store locator page on their website in the event smaller franchisees have decided to operate alternative hours due to demand.

Lloyds Pharmacy

Lloyds Pharmacy has confirmed  all stores will be closed from December 25 to December 27, to give employees both Boxing Day and Christmas Day observed off. Stores will be opening Christmas Eve, however, between the hours of 9am and 1pm.

Superdrug

Through the NHS website, Superdrug has confirmed stores will open once more on Boxing Day between 8am and 5.30pm.

D.R Harris and Company

D.R Harris and Company has confirmed they will be closed on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day, but will reopen on Christmas Day observed (December 27) with their regular hours of operation.

Watson’s Pharmacy

Watsons Pharmacy will remain closed from Christmas Day until December 27, before returning to the usual hours of operation until New Years Day.

Essentials Pharmacy

Essentials Pharmacy does not open over the weekends, so Sunday would have been closed in any case. However, to give their employees a generous time off for Christmas, the pharmacy will remain closed on December 26 and December 27.

Dolphins Pharmacy

Dolphins Pharmacy, according to the information they’ve supplied to the NHS, will remain closed on December 26 and December 27.

Kerrs Chemist

Kerrs Chemist have confirmed they will remain closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, but plan to reopen on December 27.

Star Pharmacy

Star Pharmacy will be closed on both Christmas Day, Boxing Day and December 27, according to the most recent information supplied to the NHS.

The Pharmacy at Mayfair and Clinic have confirmed that they will remain closed from Christmas Day until December 27.
