The former BBC Radio 1 presenter, 38, who is from Oldham but now lives in north London, shared a confusing conversation that he had with a fellow train passenger with his almost 2 million Twitter followers.

He explained how the stranger asked him a question about his music skills, after mistaking him for singer-songwriter, Mika.

“A lady on the train just asked me “how’s your piano programme going luv?” After much confusion and back and forth we both realised that was a question for Mika,” Nick tweeted.

Mika, 39, is currently a judge on The Piano, Channel 4′s hunt for Britain’s most talented undiscovered pianists, which is hosted by Claudia Winkleman.

The singer-songwriter is best known for his popular hits including Love Today, Big Girl (You Are Beautiful) and Grace Kelly.

Nick added to the comedy of the situation by suggesting that he may have been crooning the lyrics from Grace Kelly whilst walking up and down the aisles.

Nick’s followers were quick to make comparisons between the two stars with one tweeting: “@grimmers Mika was on The One Show  a week or two back. I thought he was you until he spoke!”

Another said: “@grimmers It doesn’t surprise me, I always thought you look alike. A lot!”

Nick, who was a favourite on Radio 1 for 14 years, left the BBC show last year to explore new opportunities. He has since hosted The Great Homes Transformation for Channel 4, written a book and has also launched the Dish podcast with chef Angela Hartnett.
