New Oxford Street bus crash: TfL bus smashes into pub in central London shopping street

One person was taken to hospital after a yellow double-decker bus crashed into a building.

A London bus crashed into a pub in central London on Tuesday morning (March 5).

One man was taken to hospital following the crash at the All Bar One in New Oxford Street, near Tottenham Court Road station.

Transport for London (TfL) said the number 8 bus was not carrying passengers as it was just coming on shift.

A cordon was put in place, and traffic is being diverted. The building has been declared structurally sound and TfL is working to remove the bus.

A TfL spokesperson said: "A route 8 bus has collided with a building on New Oxford Street. There were no passengers onboard the bus and we have support available for anyone affected by this incident. We are working with the Stagecoach London, the operator, to establish what happened.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.10am today to reports of a road traffic collision on New Oxford Street, WC1A. We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a cycle paramedic, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). Our first paramedic arrived on scene in approximately five minutes.

“We treated two people. We took one patient to hospital and discharged the other at the scene.”

London Fire Brigade said in a statement: "Firefighters attended a road traffic collision on New Oxford Street in Soho.

"One double decker bus collided into the front of a mid-terraced gallery and office building. One man left the bus before the brigade's arrival and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. There are no further reports of injuries.

"Firefighters evacuated around 200 people from the property using the building's rear entrance. Road closures remain in place and people are advised to avoid the area at this time. A structural engineer has declared the building safe with no further concerns." 

Two fire engines and two fire and rescue units from Soho, Euston and Battersea fire stations attended the scene.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.16am on Tuesday March 5 to reports that a bus had collided with a pub in New Oxford Street, WC1.

"Officers responded."
