Watch: On National Biscuit Day Londoners reveal their favourite biscuits
National Biscuit Day is celebrated annually on May 29. The history of National Biscuit Day can be traced back to the early 1800s.
Biscuits are not a modern invention and originated as a way of making flour and other ingredients last longer so that they could be taken on long journeys. They were a staple on long sailing expeditions for the Ancient Egyptians and kept many a Roman soldier energised during their conquests of different lands.

Hide AdTo celebrate National Biscuit Day we asked Crystal Palace locals what their favourite biscuit is. One local said she liked ginger nuts for dunking in tea. She said: “I do like biscuits and I’m all for a national biscuit day.”
However, for eating in general, she said: “I like biscuits that are made with butter.“I like good-quality biscuits.”
Another local said he liked Tim Tams and Jammy Dodgers.
He said: “I spent 13 years living in Australia so the Anzac biscuit became a favourite.”
He said he preferred to have oatmeal raisin biscuits with his tea.
