Murder suspect in double stabbing of two women found dead in Newham canal

A manhunt for Miguel Angel Alvarez Florentino, 38, has ended after the body of a male near City Mill Lock in Newham was found on Friday 28 October.
As part of the murder investivation inquiry, on 28 October, detectives at Blaker Road, E15 saw the body of a man in a river.

Hide AdThe body was retrieved and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives had released the name and image of Florentino in connection with a double stabbing in Stratford.
“The death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious. While formal identification is yet to take place, officers are confident it is the body of Miguel Angel Alvarez Florentino,” a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.
His next of kin have been informed.
He was a person of interest in the fatal stabbing of 53-year old Yolanda Saldana Feliz. Her daughter Lauris was also attacked by a knifeman at Windmill Lane, Stratford on Sunday, October 23. Florentino was known to both women.

Hide AdPolice were called at about 03:35hrs on Sunday October 23, to a residential address in Windmill Lane, E15.
Officers attended London Ambulance Service paramedics and found two women with stab wounds.
Despite the efforts of the emergency services, Feliz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Feliz’s cause of death was given as stab wounds at a post-mortem. Her daughter Lauris, 30, was admitted to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Hide AdChief Superintendent Simon Crick, responsible for policing in Newham, added: “I remain shocked and saddened by this incident. I know this has caused a great deal of concern for the community.”
Inquests will be held at a later date.
Figures for homicides are down this year. In London, a total of 86 homicide investigations were launched in 2022, in contrast with 109 between January to October 2021. Last year, there were 131 recorded homicides in the Met area, which covers most of London.
