Despite his fame, the actor struggled with severe drug and alcohol addictions which he outlined in his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers And The Big Terrible Thing.

In his book, Perry candidly addressed his tumultuous journey, recounting his experiences with addiction and the multiple stints in rehab and therapy that followed.

Perry’s death has left the entertainment world and his fans heartbroken, with outpourings of love flooding social media.

Episodes 23 and 24 of Season 4, The One With Ross’s Wedding, were filmed in the capital in March 1998.

Location shooting was done mostly for scenes featuring Joey and Chandler: outside the London Marriott, in Grosvenor Square, atop an open-top London bus as it crosses Tower Bridge, and near St John’s Church, Wapping.

Some of the show’s most famous scenes occurred in the London episodes including, Ross accidentally saying "I, Ross, take thee Rachel" at his wedding to Emily, as well as the beginning of Chandler and Monica’s romantic relationship.

The photographer wrote: “I just want to say thank you, Matthew. Thank you for all the laughs and for all the joy you gave the entire world. We’ll be smiling forever because of you and that’ll never go away.

“You will always be in our living rooms on Sunday afternoons, we’ll never tire of watching you and Joey see life through, and I know Monica will be cherishing every random memory. We’ll forever be grateful we were allowed to watch and look forward to your witty one-liners and soppy romantic moments. From the screen to reality, thank you. This feels close to home because we’ve all lost a friend today.

“Thank you for filling up our hearts ♥️.”

Perry’s versatile career extended beyond Friends, earning him accolades for his appearances on The West Wing and his roles in films such as Fools Rush In and The Whole Nine Yards, in which he starred alongside Salma Hayek and Bruce Willis respectively.

His contributions to the world of entertainment will be remembered fondly by fans and colleagues.
