The new food hall, which Market Place will operate, will take over the space next to Leicester Square’s iconic Odeon cinema. The new venue will be home to 16 independent food vendors and three bars when it opens in December.

Restaurant Online reports that the flagship store will join Market Place’s growing portfolio of venues in London. It currently operates venues in St Paul’s, Harrow, Vauxhall, Baker Street and Peckham. The brand also operates a venue in Manchester.

What will be in the food hall?

While details of the new venue are limited, we know the food hall will span the 24,000 sq ft building, including the basement, ground, first, second and third floors, located on the eastern side of Leicester Square.

Restaurant Online also reports that the new Leicester Square venue will have dedicated spaces for events, sports games and private dining rooms for hire.

It will also have a weekly programme of events which will include comedy nights, DJ sets and live music.

The Standard reports it will be “one of the largest and most ambitious food hall experiences the UK has ever seen”.

It also added that “restaurants will be spread across five floors, while drinks will be served on the ground floor and on the balcony overlooking Leicester Square.”

“UK hospitality is moving forward”

Melinda Roylett, Managing Director, Lloyds Merchant Services: “The news that a five-storey food hall is set to open in Leicester Square is a great example of how UK hospitality keeps moving forward.

“Our latest research shows that these businesses sit firmly at the heart of community life, with 97% agreeing they play a vital local role and they’re looking ahead with real ambition. More than half of those planning to expand are investing in smarter payment tools, and 38% are eyeing food halls as a new way to reach customers.

“Food halls bring people together through variety, buzz and convenience. With quicker, simpler ways to pay, teams can keep service flowing and focus on what matters most: the experience itself. It’s a glimpse of hospitality’s bright future, one that’s welcoming, connected and full of life.”
