A 79-year-old man has collapsed and died in the street in Battersea.

A police cordon has been in place in Battersea Bridge Road throughout the day, with a tent covering the body.

Officers are still working to find out the man’s identity and contact his next of kin.

Scotland Yard said officers were called to Battersea Bridge Road, near the junction with Petworth Street, at 6.47am, after reports someone had collapsed.

The Met said: “Officers attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics.

“They found a 79-year-old man who was unresponsive.

“Despite the efforts of the emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

“Officers are working to identify and inform his next of kin.”

The London Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 6.39am today to reports of a person unwell on Battersea Bridge Road.

“We sent an ambulance crew, two medics in cars, a team leader, an incident response officer, and an advanced paramedic.

“Sadly, a man died at the scene.”
