22 London fires in April from explosions to chip pans - and what the brigade said about them

We look at 22 of the dozens of incidents to which London Fire Brigade responded in April 2023.

In the last few days London Fire Brigade has tackled blazes in Elephant and Castle, Golders Green and Southall, but those are just three of dozens of incidents each month.

Crews are called out to everything from flooding to car crashes, on top of their core roles of tackling fires and helping to prevent them.

Tragically, in April at least two people died after fires broke out in London.

On Tuesday April 4 , a woman died following a house fire in Rotherwood Close, Wimbledon. The ground and first floors of an end-of-terraced house were destroyed, and half of the roof was damaged. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from the first floor but she was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman from a neighbouring property was treated by London Ambulance Service crews for smoke inhalation.

On Thursday April 6, 15-year-old Tiffany Regis died in a flat fire in Tollgate Road, Beckton, leading to the launch of a murder investigation by the Met Police.

In many other incidents, people had lucky escapes or were rescued by firefighters. We look here at just 22 of those incidents in April alone - and at what London Fire Brigade said about them.
