London agency launches nationwide campaign to stop the horrors of domestic abuse across the UK

Mediazoo, a leading London-based creative agency, announces the launch of its new collaborative domestic abuse awareness campaign, "Raising Red, Flying Green".

On October 31, the agency raised 242 red flags in front of the iconic Monument to the Great Fire of London to mark the end of Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, highlighting the stark contrast between the six lives lost in the great fire and the 242 fatal cases of domestic abuse in the UK per year.

Alongside, a green flag with an interactive QR code was displayed, allowing passersby to engage with the campaign and learn more about domestic abuse in the UK.

Raising Red, Flying Green is an initiative in collaboration with Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse (EIDA), to raise awareness of the signs and consequences of abuse and provide essential educational resources to empower communities across the country, as against common belief, it’s not always easy to spot the signs of abuse, as not everyone bears visible bruises.

Domestic abuse still thrives and remains a pervasive and heartbreaking reality in the UK communities, affecting individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. According to the latest research from the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), between April 2022 and March 2023, there were 242 fatalities related to domestic abuse, with thousands more still suffering in silence.

Furthermore, reports by Refuge charity show that on average, one woman is killed by an abusive partner or ex every five days in England and Wales, and approximately three women per week die by suicide as a result of domestic abuse.

In light of these disheartening statistics, the campaign will focus on educating individuals and the communities around them to recognise concerning behaviour in a relationship (red flag) and to know how to support victims (green flag).

Alongside the tribute, Raising Red, Flying Green will launch digital learning materials to educate on recognising early signs of abuse and offering support.

As part of its wider strategy, the campaign will strive to partner with key local community social hubs such as gyms, hairdressers and community centres, as well as corporate, government and public sector bodies to provide tailored messaging programs that address domestic abuse prevention.
