Here’s the latest update on the major police incident in Lewisham High Street yesterday (10th Feb)

Armed police descended upon Lewisham High Street yesterday after a man was seen wielding a knife from a window.

The High Street was cordoned off and emergency services including armed police attended the scene.

The incident was ongoing for many hours and residents in the cordon zone were unable to enter their homes - this continued well into the night. This has now been lifted.

Yesterday morning (February 10), Lewisham locals reportedly spotted a man shouting from a window above the High Street.

Photos and videos from the scene are circulating on social media. It appears a man is wielding a knife.

Originally officers were trying to establish whether anyone else is also inside the property with the man amid reports of a ‘hostage situation.’ However Met Police confirmed it did not appear anyone else was in the property.

At the time a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to a disturbance on Lewisham High Street, at around 10:45am on Monday, 10 February.

"Officers are currently in attendance at the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

“We are speaking to a man inside an address at the location. Enquiries are ongoing to establish whether anyone else is inside the property.

“Lewisham High Street section of the A20 remains closed while the incident is ongoing.”

Lewisham Police added they were speaking to a man inside the property in a statement on X.

London Ambulance service said: “We are responding to this incident alongside colleagues from the Met Police and London Fire Brigade and remain on scene as a precaution.”

An update from police said: “Due to an ongoing incident in Lewisham High Street towards Lee High Road, traffic will be diverted and may be heavier than usual. Please plan your journey accordingly.”

The latest statement from Lewisham Council said: “Lewisham Town Centre update: earlier this morning all cordons were lifted and residents are able to return home. Roads are open. “
