TfL latest: Jo Brand records special announcement for Poppy Day in London

Transport for London has teamed up once again with the Royal British Legion to mark London Poppy Day, with comedian and actress Jo Brand voicing special announcements across the network in support of this year’s appeal.

Transport for London (TfL) has continued its long-running partnership with the Royal British Legion (RBL) to mark London Poppy Day 2025, with a bit of help from Jo Brand.

The British actress, comedian and presenter will feature in special announcements played across TfL stations on Wednesday, 30 October, as the RBL aims to raise over £1 million for its annual appeal.

More than 1,700 volunteers and uniformed fundraisers from the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force will be collecting donations between 7am and 7pm at stations across the capital.

As part of the campaign, eight London buses have been wrapped in a striking poppy-themed design to honour past and present servicepeople. The buses were unveiled at Alexandra Palace earlier this month — a site with deep wartime roots, having served as a refugee camp during WWI and later used to disrupt German radio signals in WWII.

Across the network, Elizabeth line, London Underground, Overground, Tram and DLR trains also feature poppy illustrations, while the IFS Cloud Cable Car has been decorated with commemorative poppy designs.

Passengers can also spot poppy roundels at select stations, including:

  • Hammersmith, Harrow, Kingston, Turnpike Lane and Vauxhall bus stations
  • Victoria Coach Station
  • Hackney Downs, Hatch End, Hoxton, Shepherd’s Bush and South Tottenham (London Overground)
  • Baker Street, Balham, Bethnal Green, Bounds Green, Canary Wharf, King’s Cross St Pancras, London Bridge, Tower Hill and Westminster (London Underground)

London’s Deputy Mayor for Transport, Seb Dance, said: “I’m delighted that TfL is again marking London Poppy Day with special announcements and designs to remember and honour all the brave men and women who dedicated their lives to protecting our country.”

TfL’s Transport Commissioner, Andy Lord, added: “We are very proud once again to support the Royal British Legion for London Poppy Day... We hope customers will donate what they can and help us in this important fundraising effort.”

The London Poppy Appeal is the largest street collection of its kind in the UK, involving more than 2,000 collectors and Armed Forces personnel from across the services.

As a proud member of the Armed Forces Covenant, TfL employs many veterans in roles ranging from bus drivers and engineers to project managers.

This year, the London Transport Old Comrades will march in the Remembrance Sunday Parade, honouring the 4,500 transport staff who died in the world wars and other conflicts.

TfL will also join the nation in observing a two-minute silence at 11am on Armistice Day (11 November) to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Donations to the London Poppy Appeal can be made using contactless payments, helping the RBL provide vital support to serving and ex-serving personnel, including health, wellbeing, and financial assistance.
