Flooding and torrential rain causes travel chaos in London

London has been hit by flash flooding as Storm Claudio brought chaos to commuters in the capital.

Disruption on London roads and transport systems were caused by heavy rainfall and flooding. Several main roads including sections of the M25, the A41 and A1 were closed as well as other routes in west London.

A yellow rain warning was issued by the Met Office and Environment Agency across England and the London Fire Brigade warned people not to drive or walk through floodwater. Up to 30mm of rain is expected.

District line services on London Underground were suspended between Earl’s Court, Richmond and Ealing Broadway due to signal failures.

There was also flooding outside Finchley Road station on the Metropolitan and Jubilee Lines.

Fulwell and Hampton were also closed on the Southwestern Railway. Tickets would be accepted at no extra cost on Tfl buses between Shepperton and Teddington.

The torrential rain was described as “biblical” by commuters, while on driver posted on Twitter that the storms were “probably the wettest and worst conditions I’ve ever driven in”.

Bakerloo Line: No service between Queen’s Park and Harrow & Wealdstone due to a signal failure at Harlesden.

District Line: No service between Earl’s Court and Richmond / Ealing Broadway due to a signal failure caused by flooding at Richmond and Acton Town.

Elizabeth Line: Severe delays between Liverpool Street and Shenfield while the service recovers from a late finish of engineering work

London Overground: No service between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction due to signal failures at West Croydon and Wandsworth Road.

Piccadilly Line: Severe delays between Acton Town and Uxbridge while we fix a signal failure caused by flooding at Acton Town. MINOR DELAYS between Acton Town and Arnos Grove
