Firefighters battled a blaze at a Whitechapel flat in the early hours of this morning.

Dozens of firefighters tackled a flat fire in Commercial Road, Tower Hamlets, after the alarm was raised just before 5am today, (Wednesday, November 24).

Four fire engines drove to the area, where around 25 firefighters were needed to extinguish the blaze in a one-room flat on the fourth floor.

One person was treated by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service after suffering smoke inhalation, and part of the flat was damaged by the flames.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “The Brigade was called at 4.49am and the fire was under control by 6.10am.

“Fire crews from Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch, Bethnal Green and Dowgate fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
