Former professional footballer John Fashanu is the second celebrity confirmed to be taking part in the upcoming season of Dancing on Ice.

The 60-year-old, who used to play for the likes of Aston Villa is the second celebrity taking to the ice after ex-Eastenders star Patsy Palmer was named on October 3.

Speaking about taking to the ice, Fashanu said: “I’m so excited to be a part of Dancing on Ice! I don’t think it’ll come as a surprise to people that I’m very competitive - I am definitely in it to win it.

“And this may be one of the scariest things I’ve ever signed up for but I couldn’t be more ready for the challenge.”

Throughout his career, Fashanu played as a striker, and was part of the famed Wimbledon team dubbed ‘the crazy gang’ - and won the FA cup with them in 1988 alongside the likes of Vinnie Jones.

Fashanu is no stranger to appearing on TV, as after hanging up his boots he later went on to co-host Gladiators in the mid-90s and has previously appeared on Come Dine With Me for a football special.

He joins former Eastenders star Patsy Palmer, who is most known for her role as Bianca Jackson on the BBC One show.

Asked why she decided to take part this year, she said: “Out of all the things that came through at that time, this was the one that I had to really think about.

“Obviously I wanted to challenge myself, get back to work, get out of my comfort zone. I just thought, I’ll just go for it! It seems like a lot of fun. I do like ice skating, although I’m not a figure skater.”

A further 10 celebrities will be unveiled as we edge closer to the 15th season of Dancing on Ice, which is set to air in January 2023.
