Update: Police investigating stranger rape of teen girl say attack didn’t occur in Peckham

Officers investigating the horrific attack have said that the crime did not happen “at the location which was originally given, or in Peckham”.

Detectives investigating the rape of a teenage girl - who said she was attacked by masked men near Peckham Rye Station - have established that the crime did not occur in this area.

She said she was then dragged off to a nearby street where they assaulted her.

Police originally put up a cordon around part of Peckham Rye station, and neighbouring Holly Grove - where it was thought the attack took place.

However now officers investigating the horrific attack have said that “the crime did not happen at the location which was originally given, or in the Peckham area”.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Detectives are working closely with the victim to establish all the facts, and together with the local council we will inform and continue to support our communities as soon as more information is known.

"Numerous and extensive enquiries have taken place and we continue to investigate the allegation in view of the new information provided.

“We continue to support the victim survivor in partnership with specialist services.”

A vigil is being held at 6pm on tonight, opposite the Peckham Liberal Club, to "express sorrow and solidarity" with survivors of violence against women.
