Ealing and Birmingham attacks: Man charged with two counts of attempted murder

The defendant is alleged to have set his victims on fire after they left mosques.

A man will appear in court charged with two counts of attempted murder following incidents in Ealing and Birmingham in the last month.

Mohammed Abbkr, from Edgbaston in Birmingham, has been charged and will appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court this morning (March 23).

The 28-year-old is alleged to have sprayed a substance on two men and set it alight in separate incidents in Ealing and Birmingham as victims left mosques on 27 February and 20 March.

Police continue to appeal for CCTV, ring doorbell footage or any other video that could help the investigation. Footage can be submitted via a dedicated website.

The incident in Ealing occurred at around 8pm on Monday, February 27. A man engaged the victim in conversation as they both left the West London Islamic Centre.

West Midlands Police is leading a joint investigation with Counter Terrorism Policing and the Metropolitan Police.
