Romford Premier Inn: Pair found dead in Mercury Gardens hotel, with ‘substance’ found at the scene

A man and a woman have been found dead in an east London Premier Inn, with concerns raised about a “substance” also found at the scene.

Officers were called at 12.43pm yesterday (July 1) after the pair were found unresponsive at the hotel in Mercury Gardens, Romford.

The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended alongside police. A spokesperson for the Met said the man, aged 28, and the woman, 54, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The spokesperson continued: "The deaths are being treated as unexpected and further enquiries are taking place to establish the circumstances.

“Specialist officers also attended due to concerns about a substance that was found at the scene.”

Their next of kin have been informed and post-mortem examinations will take place in due course.
