Richmond Bridge death: Dad-of-one fatally stabbed with glass shard named as boxing trainer Reece Newcombe

A man who died in a fight on Saturday night on Richmond Bridge after being stabbed with a glass shard has been identified as boxing trainer Reece Newcombe, police have revealed.

The 31-year-old was one of three stabbings in the capital over the weekend.

Teenagers Charlie Bartolo and Kearne Solanke, both 16, were found stabbed to death a mile apart in south east London, with detectives linking the two attacks.

Boxer Reece, a dad-of-one to baby girl Misse, trained sports pundit and ex-footballer Ian Wright for a charity match, as well as actor Jack O’Connell, of drama SAS: Rogue Heroes.

Officers were called to a fight on Richmond Bridge, southwest London at 4am on Saturday. Police performed CPR on Mr Newcombe and he was taken to hospital but later died.

His family posted a tribute to him on Facebook, stating: “We are truly heartbroken at the loss of our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin. Words cannot describe our grief.

“Our family is broken and never will be the same again without Reece’s larger than life personality.

“As a family we will ensure his darling daughter Misse will know all about her Daddy and how much he loved her and how much he was loved by everyone.

“Everyone that crossed paths with Reece always has a funny story to tell about his crazy antics. RIP our beloved Reecey Bear. Grief is the price we pay for love.”

A GoFundMe has so far raised £53,820 for Reece’s daughter, set up by a friend, Jamie Dobson.

He said: “Reece was a loveable, fun guy loved by all. He didn’t have a bad bone in his body.

“He made an impact on everyone he met. Devastatingly over the weekend Reece was murdered, leaving his daughter Misse behind.

“I want to raise money to give Misse the first Christmas and start in life her dad would have wanted.”

He later added: “I would like to thank on behalf of Reese’s family and friends, each and every person who has donated, no matter how big or small.

“This is a very tough time for us all but to see the generosity of so many people and to see how loved Reece is brings us warmth. We are blown away with the amount so far.”

DCI Katherine Goodwin said: "We believe a number of people watched the incident unfold and some onlookers may have recorded footage on their mobile phones.

"Anyone who has yet to speak to us is urged to come forward immediately.cMy team is working to provide Reece’s family with answers and the public could have valuable information that will help our investigation."

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 4am on Saturday, November 26, to a fight on Richmond Bridge.

"Officers attended and found Reece, who had been stabbed with what we believe to be a piece of broken glass.cOfficers administered CPR prior to the arrival of paramedics before Reece was taken to hospital.

"Despite the efforts of all involved, he died later in the morning. His next of kin have been informed; they are being supported by specialist officers. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. No arrests have been made at this time."

Ch Supt Lis Chapple, from Richmond Police, said: "My thoughts are with Reece and his family.

“We will do everything we can to support our colleagues as they work to establish what has happened here.

"A scene will remain in place and officers will remain at the scene and in the area to speak to local people about any concerns they have, or information they might want to share."
