The Met Police said it is reviewing the actions of “everyone involved” after a video appeared to show a man holding a woman by her throat.

Police are investigating an incident at a shop in Peckham and a large crowd has gathered in protest after a video circulated on social media.

The Met Police says a woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault after footage gained traction online appearing to show a male employee grabbing a woman by the neck.

The footage, which was shared on social media on Monday (September 11), appears to show the woman hit the man over the head with a basket, before he holds her by her neck.

A Met Police spokesperson said officers were called to the premises at 1.16pm that same day, to reports of a 31-year-old woman attempting to steal items and an employee preventing her from leaving.

The spokesperson said the woman was later bailed pending further enquiries.

A LondonWorld reporter who is at the scene said there is a constant stream of people writing messages on the front of the shop, with several hundred protesters in attendance.

They added there is a visible police presence, with audio of famous civil rights speeches also being played.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, local policing commander for Southwark, said: “We know people will be concerned about a video circulating online of an incident in a shop.
