"Cordons were put in place and a small number of surrounding properties were evacuated as a precaution while this work was carried out. These cordons have now been lifted and we thank residents for their patience during this time.

"Work continues to establish the exact circumstances of this incident but at this stage there is nothing to suggest this was a hate crime or linked to terrorism - we would ask people not to speculate while our investigation is ongoing.

"In recent days we have put in extra patrols across London where our communities feel vulnerable and these will remain. We want to ensure all our communities feel safe and secure, and urge anyone to report any suspicious activity to police immediately."
