Oval: TfL London bus and Met Police van crash - eleven injured including officers

Eleven people were injured when a London bus and a police van were involved in a crash on Wednesday morning (February 14).

Nine people were taken to hospital, including six police officers, but their injuries are "not life threatening or life changing".

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to Kennington Park Road, SE11 at about 11.32am on Wednesday, February 14 following reports of a collision involving a police van and a bus.

“Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues in London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade.

“Nine people were taken to hospital, including a six police officers. Their injuries have been assessed as not life threatening or life changing.

Road closures remain in place while officers deal with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”

A witness described the scene this morning as "chaos."

“There was a bus and it came all the way straight down and there was a police car which was turning right," they told LondonWorld.

“The bus stopped and collided into the traffic light. I saw loads of ambulances, police officers, and the fire brigade. There was chaos here.

“Part of the screen where the driver was was completely smashed.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11.36am today to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction between Clapham Road and Kennington Park Road, SE11.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene. Our first medics arrived in four minutes. We treated 11 patients at the scene. We took nine people to hospital and discharged two others at the scene.”

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called at 12.11pm to a report of a road traffic collision on Kennington Park Road.

"A double-decker bus and a police vehicle were involved. Three people who left the bus before firefighters arrived were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

"One police officer was reported to be trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighter used cutting gear to remove one of the vehicle's doors before assisting the officer from the vehicle. They were taken to hospital. A number of other police officers were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

"Two fire engines from Clapham and Peckham fire stations and a fire and rescue unit from Battersea Fire Station attended the scene."

A Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson said: “A police vehicle has collided with a bus in Lambeth this afternoon. Thankfully no serious injuries have been reported, though we understand this may have been distressing for those involved and we have support available for anyone affected by this incident. An investigation is underway and we are working with the bus operator and the police to establish what happened.”
