Enfield man charged with murder of mother, 84, who was found with a ‘number of injuries’

An Enfield man has been charged with the murder of his elderly mother, after she was found with a “number of injuries”.

Gareth Jackson, of Stainton Road, was charged in the early hours of Monday, January 31, and is due in court later today.

The 50-year-old will appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court.

Met Police officers were called to a residential property at around 2.15am on Sunday, January 30, following concerns for the welfare of an elderly woman.

Officers found the 84-year-old woman suffering from a number of injuries.

She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Her family has given permission for officers to name her as Lesma Jackson.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

“A 50-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

“He was later charged as above.”
