Jan Latham-Koenig: Acclaimed music conductor charged with child abuse sex offence

An acclaimed classical music conductor who was awarded with an OBE for services to music has been charged with a child abuse sex offences.

Jan Latham-Koenig, was arrested at London Victoria Train station on Wednesday January 10.

He was charged with arranging/facilitating a child sexual offence and sexual communication with a child the following day.

Latham-Koenig, who lives in South Kensington is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Friday January 12.

The 70-year-old made his name as a concert conductor with the BBC, later winning the prestigious Gulbenkian Fellowship and becoming a permanent guest conductor at the Vienna State Opera.

He has held music director positions at orchestras across the globe including the Novaya Opera in Moscow, Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM in Mexico City and the Flanders Symphony Orchestra in Bruges.

He was appointed OBE in 2020 for services to music and UK/Russian cultural relations.
