A 49-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of child neglect on Saturday and have since been bailed until April while investigations continue.

The Met Police would not confirm the address within the postcode, which covers Stamford Hill, Stoke Newington, Dalston and part of Upper Clapton.

A Hackney Council spokesperson said: “We were extremely saddened to hear about the death of the seven-year-old girl in Stamford Hill. However, it would be inappropriate to make any other comment at this stage while there is a police investigation under way.”

The City and Hackney safeguarding board is likely to start a serious case review into the girl’s death and to look into the allegations of neglect.
