The former BBC technology correspondent’s dog Cabbage was among those stolen.

The veteran reporter shared the news on his Twitter account at around midday today.

He said: “Something terrible has happened.

“Our dog walker’s van with our dog Cabbage in it has been stolen while he was picking up another pet.

“Please look out for a black Ford Transit. Take a photo and DM me or just ring the police.”

He added: “Should say the van was stolen at 10.20am in East Acton Lane in London, W3.

“Please retweet this. Stolen along with other dogs in Acton.”

Mr Cellan-Jones also shared a picture of his pet, saying: “Here’s Cabbage this morning.”

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “Police were called to Erconwald Street, W12, at 10.11am on Friday, 12 November, to reports of a van stolen containing six dogs.

“Officers attended. There have been no arrests. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Mr Cellan-Jones, who left the BBC late last month after 40 years, previously told Friday magazine: “Cabbage has the sweetest nature and has never given us any trouble.

“At home, she sees herself as head of security, standing guard when I do live radio broadcasts from my front room.

“She combines the gentlest temperament with the characteristic collie intelligence.”

The tweet has been shared more than 5,000 times by social media users hoping to help reunite Cabbage with her owners.
