Brixton: Man charged with ‘homophobic assault’ following Black Pride

The “homophobic assault” was reported on August 19 on Brixton Road.

A man has been charged following what police describe as a “homophobic assault” in Brixton.

Jabbard Mabounda, of Crosby Walk, will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court today (September 29).

The 31-year-old is charged with one count of racially/religiously aggravated ABH and two counts of racially/religiously aggravated assault by beating.

The charges relate to an incident on Brixton Road at approximately 10.30pm August 19.

Police say two men were standing at a bus stop when they were assaulted by another man. The two men went to hospital for treatment for their injuries before being discharged.

The BBC previously reported that the victims had spent the day at Black Pride events.
