Michael Murphy, 49, was stabbed to death in Hackney on Boxing Day.

Detectives investigating a fatal stabbing in Hackney on Boxing Day have charged a man with murder.

Jurejs Vankovs, 38, of no fixed address, was charged on Tuesday January 2 with the murder of Michael Murphy. He was also charged with possession of a bladed article.

An investigation was launched after Michael, 49, was found with fatal stab wounds in Cranwood Street, Hackney in the early hours of Boxing Day.

His next of kin continue to be supported by specially trained officers.
