89-year-old woman stabbed to death in Croydon

An 89-year-old woman has been found stabbed to death at a residential home in Croydon.

Met Police officers were called to the address at Brigstock Road, Thornton Heath, at 9.20pm on Tuesday, June 21, following reports of a stabbing.

Officers arrived with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 30s was arrested at another address in Croydon shortly afterwards and has been taken into police custody.

He and the woman are thought to have been known to each other.

At this stage, nobody else is sought in connection with the incident.

Enquiries are still underway to establish the full circumstances of the woman’s death.

The woman’s family have been informed and will be supported by specialist officers, with formal identification and a post-mortem examination still to be arranged.
