Stacked sandwiches with flavour-packed fillings? Yeah we can definitely get on board with this!

When it comes to sandwich shops, we don’t think we’d be out of turn in saying London has some of the best in the world.

Sure, New York might be famous for its bagels but we’ve got Sandwich Sandwich and Rogue Sarnies.

London’s sandwich scene has welcomed a new member, Cafe Mondo in Peckham.

The sandwich bar opened on Peckham Road in November last year and already has a loyal (and buzzy) fan base.

And it’s not just Peckham locals that can’t get enough of this new eatery, Londoners are travelling across the city to sample the shop’s epic sarnies.

Cafe Mondo uses ‘pillowy’ bread from its neighbouring Toad Bakery (you can’t get much more local than that!)

It boasts a flavour-packed menu offering a variety of fillings from fish fingers to pork and greens.

Mondo Sandwiches was in situ at the Grove House Tavern for a while but after a successful crowdfunding campaign, the founders raised enough to open their own sandwich shop in Peckham.

The permanent cafe opened on November 22nd 2024, and in that short time landed itself a space on Time Out’s list of best new London eateries.

The shop’s sandwiches are a far cry from your typical meal deal, packed full of delicious fresh ingredients and sauces - this is next-level lunching.

Cafe Mondo is rated 4.8 stars on Google reviews and one person said: “First visit last night and this place lives up to the hype storm.

“Ridiculously good value, absolutely delightful staff, and more than a cosy/comfortable atmosphere. The food is phenom and drinks classic yet inventive - you gotta get yourself on to Mondo.”

By night the sandwich shop reopens as a diner which Time Out described as “brazenly decent” in a recent review.

The evening menu makes use of leftover bread from the lunch service by repurposing it into delicious crostini and next-level chicken nuggets.

But it’s not just the food that’s got people talking, customers love Cafe Mondo’s ‘inventive and tasty’ drinks menu too.

So, we’ll meet you down there?

Address: 42 Peckham Rd, London SE5 8PX
