Byron Burger London Wembley restaurant to close after falling into administration - list of branches closing

The owner of the Byron Burger chain has announced it will close nine sites, including one of its London restaurants, after the brand plunged into administration. Famously Proper Ltd, which also operates the Mother Clucker fried chicken brand, blamed the move on rising costs and lower consumer spending.

The “restructure” will see 218 jobs axed in total, although it is not known how many have been lost at the London site. The restaurant, located at the London Designer Outlet in Wembley, shut up shop with immediate effect and is now listed as “permanently closed” on Google.

Byron Burger has been in financial difficulty since 2018. It closed multiple outlets that year, before shutting more than half of its 51 sites in 2020, resulting in the loss of 650 jobs.

A deal has been stuck to save the chain’s remaining 12 sites and around 365 jobs. It will see restaurants and staff transferred to a new company called Tristar Foods via what is known as as a “pre-pack” administration, BBC News reported.

Managing director at Interpath Advisory, Claire Winder, who acted as a joint administrator on the deal said: "Like many other companies across the hospitality sector, Byron had seen a boost in trading following the end of the Covid lockdown measures.” But she added that "sky-high" inflation had seen customers reduce their spending, increasing pressure on the business.
